SBIRT Colorado offers support for all Coloradans concerned about their health.
  • Alcohol and other drug use—at any level—affects a person’s health and general well-being.
  • Prevention screenings serve as a powerful education tool for those who use alcohol and drugs.
  • Research proves that screening within a healthcare setting can motivate people to change their habits.
  • Early intervention can reduce risky alcohol and other drug use before it leads to addiction.
  • The benefits of this program extend well beyond the user—to the person’s family and employer, to law enforcement and to the healthcare industry.
SBIRT screenings are being conducted by Health Educators at twelve clinics and hospitals in nine Colorado counties: Arapahoe, Denver, Eagle, El Paso, Gunnison, Larimer, Mesa, Prowers, Summit and Weld counties. The current sites are:

Colorado Clinical Guidelines Collaborative and SBIRT Colorado work directly with primary care offices throughout the state to integrate the Guideline for Alcohol and Substance Use Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment into clinical practice using an interactive activity called a Rapid Improvement Activity. HIV/AIDS Specialty Clinics and Support Services Agencies 
SBIRT Colorado collaborates with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, utilizing Ryan White Part B funding, to expand SBIRT to clinics and AIDS Service Organizations that serve people living with HIV.
